A MAN who drove a tractor the wrong way down a one-way street has been fined in court.
John Loughrey (19) of Ardaravan, Buncrana, was before Buncrana District Court on a careless driving charge.
Gardaí told the court that at 6pm on July 24, 2019, Loughrey had driven a tractor down the one-way street in the wrong direction, almost colliding with another vehicle. The incident was captured on dash cam footage.
Solicitor Ciaran Mac Lochlainn said a friend of his client had come to Buncrana in his father’s tractor, which was open driven.
“He is an inexperienced driver,” Mr Mac Lochlainn said, “He drive up the Main Street in broad day light and went down Maginn Avenue. It used to be a two-way system. The other car pulled onto the footpath to avoid a collision.
“There was no collision and no-one was injured.”
Mr Mac Lochlainn said Loughrey was due to start work as a digger driver in Cork next month and was anxious to avoid a disqualification.
Judge Paul Kelly fined Loughrey €150, giving him three months to pay.
