A newly proposed cap on the Mica Redress Scheme has been criticised by homeowners today.
The government is reportedly planning to cap compensation at €350,000.
Today’s Sunday Times reports that plans to enhance the scheme will expand it to rental properties.
Holiday homes may still be excluded from the scheme, unless owners agree to let their properties out for long-term rental.
Michael Doherty, PRO of the Mica Action Group, said it would welcome the inclusion of rental properties and holiday homes that were put on the rental market, which was a suggestion that campaigners have made to government.
“A €350,000 cap would be a real problem because we estimate that would exclude roughly 40 per cent of our people and we couldn’t live with that,” Mr Doherty said.
