Three young sisters have died following a tragic incident in Dublin.
A teenager and her two young sisters died following the incident in Tallaght last night.
Gardaí were alerted to a violent incident which was taking place at a house in the Rossfield Estate in Tallaght at 12.30am this morning.
Three female siblings, two children and an adult teenager, were taken from the scene by ambulance to hospital in Crumlin where they were pronounced dead a short time later.
Gardaí say a teenage boy was taken from the scene to hospital in Tallaght with serious but what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
A man in his 20s was arrested at the scene and is currently being detained at Tallaght Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
In a statement, gardaí said: “Following an intervention by Garda Armed Support Unit members, involving the discharge of less than-lethal devices, a male in his early 20s was arrested at the scene.”
The mother of the children, who was not injured at the scene, was taken to hospital and is receiving medical treatment.
All people involved in the incident are believed to be known to each other.
Gardaí say they are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident at this time.
The scene in the Rossfield Estate remains sealed off and a forensic examination will take place later today.
An incident room has been set up at Tallaght Garda Station and all the circumstances of the incident are being investigated, according to gardaí.
The coroner’s office and the office of the State pathologist have been informed and a family liaison officer has been appointed.
“This violent, challenging and traumatic incident was responded to by uniform unarmed garda first responders from Tallaght District, supported by uniform members and armed detectives from the wider DMR South Division and Specialist Armed Support Unit members. An Garda Síochána has put in place welfare supports for, and will continue to support, all members who attended this incident,” said a garda statement.
