Donegal Town Rugby Club have continued an unbeaten run of games after defeating Ophir RFC this weekend.
Donegal Town continued their unbeaten streak with a commanding 26-5 win. Kez McKeown started the scoring for Donegal Town with an early try The game started with a bang as Kez Mckeown opened the scoring in the early minutes of the first half. He showcased his skills after a fantastic drive and offload from Ciaran Donaghy.
The momentum was firmly in Donegal Town’s favor as Peteso again made his mark, cleverly dummying his way to another try by exploiting space on the blindside following a strong scrum. With another successful conversion, the score was Ophir 0, Donegal 14.
Donegal Town continued to apply pressure, largely thanks to the exceptional positional kicking of Peteso and Declan Bushell. The two combined brilliantly for Donegal’s third try, as Peteso’s precisely weighted crossfield kick allowed Bushell to touch down. Once more, the conversion was successful, giving Donegal a comfortable 21-0 lead as they hunted for the bonus point try.
Ophir, however, refused to back down. Applying pressure and capitalizing on their own opportunities, they managed to cross the try line with ten minutes left in the first half. As the game progressed and weather conditions worsened, it became a scrappy affair with the score remaining at 21-5 until late in the second half.
Just as the bonus point looked to be slipping away, Benny Mundy stepped up for Donegal Town. The team was deep in Ophir territory, and Benny Mundy powered through a drive from the back of the ruck, carrying defenders with him as he crossed for the crucial fourth try.
Unfortunately, the conversion was unsuccessful, but Donegal saw out the remainder of the game with a final score of Ophir 5, Donegal Town 26.
Several players put in solid performances, but the Donegal Chirocare Man of the Match title was awarded to Lee Mosby, who had an immense impact on both attack and defense, contributing significantly to Donegal Town’s impressive victory.
