Residents of Newtowncunningham are set to gather to support families affected by Monday’s lighting strike which destroyed three homes.
The freak incident occurred during Storm Isha when lightning bolts struck three homes near the Inisleigh Co-op.
Fortunately, no one was injured, but the properties were badly damaged by fire and water and residents have suffered considerable losses.
The lightning caused an elderly woman’s television to explode while she was watching it, and a woman and her three children were inside another of the homes at the time of the strike.
Local Fianna Fail Councillor, Paul Canning, has called a meeting with the aim of setting up a fund raising campaign to help families affected.
Cllr Canning invited all concerned members of the community who want to help to attend the meeting on Friday, January 26th at 7:30 pm in Trinity Court.
“Everyone is welcome, we need as many volunteers and ideas as possible to help the three families that have been seriously impacted,” he said.
