A Garda who gave a bike to an elderly man has been cleared of wrongdoing after a three-year disciplinary process.
RTÉ News reports that the midlands-based Garda gave a long-unclaimed bicycle at a Garda station to an elderly man whose bike had broken.
However, disciplinary action was then taken against the Garda for not having completed the correct paperwork when giving the bike to the man.
The Garda was suspended from his duties for a period of three years as the disciplinary process began, and the bike was also taken from the elderly man’s home by detectives. The Garda’s house was also searched as part of the process.
A disciplinary panel today cleared the Garda of the five charges of discreditable conduct, disobedience, misuse of property and neglect of duty that he had been facing.
