Donegal’s fastest kids to get chance to race in New York

THE SEARCH is on for Donegal’s fastest kids – who’ll have the chance to compete against fliers from New York next year.

Schools in Donegal are invited to send their fastest pupils to an event at the Finn Valley Centre next Thursday, December 8.

The event is open to children, boys and girls, who will be no older than eight by February 11, 2017.

The winners from the Donegal event will then compete in national finals on December 17 at the AIT International Arena in Athlone.

“The fastest boy and girl along with a parent or guardian will ultimately travel to New York to race at the prestigious Millrose Games in Manhattan on the weekend of February 11th with flight and accommodation to be paid by  the sponsors,” explained Patsy McGonagle, Finn Valley AC Chairman.

“Children are tested on their fastest speed over a ‘flying 20 metres’.

“Using speed gates, the child’s time is recorded as they run, full speed, through two gates 20 metres apart.”

The event was held last year with children from Scoil Mhuire Gan Smal, Letterkenny and St Crone’s, Dungloe winning.
