Timlin makes Derry return – and could be real ‘hometown’ player in 2017

MARK TIMLIN has signed back for Derry City, the club announced at a press conference today.

The Buncrana man played with Derry for two seasons before signing for St Patrick’s Athletic, where he spent the 2016 campaign.

The 22-year-old has signed a one-year contract at the Brandywell that has the option of an add-on second year.

Kenny Shiels was keen to recruit the winger ahead of a season that will see Derry play in the Europa League again and has landed his man, who was Derry’s top goalscorer in the 2015 season.

Timlin is an Under-21 international who played with Ipswich Town after rising through the ranks at Buncrana Hearts.

Next season he could be a real hometown boy in the Candystripes. As the Brandywell is being refurbished, it remains likely that Derry will play their home games at Maginn Park in Buncrana.
