Michael Murphy was unveiled as an Honorary Life Member at Ballyliffin Golf Club today and the Glenswilly man will act as an Ambassador for then 2018 Irish Open.

In July, Ballyliffin’s Glashedy Links will stage the Irish Open with some of the world’s top golfers set to descend on the famous course.

Donegal captain Murphy is a keen golfer and was present at a media day today where he was presented with a certificate to mark the honour.

“It’s something different and something I’m deeply honoured about, to get membership to a club of this magnitude,” Murphy said.

“It’s a club that’s steeped in tradition. You only have to come here to see the venue to see what’s going on.

“It has its natural beauty, but it takes organising too. It has the people here who are really driving things and it has that natural beauty. There isn’t a complex like it anywhere. When people get here they will enjoy it.”
