Ballybofey and Stranorlar Golf Club had their junior captain day on Monday and what a turnout there was.

Captain Gerry and Lady captain Josephine where delighted with all that turned up on the day for the main competition of the summer.

Some of the young guns on Junior Captains Day.

Gerry thanked the Junior convenors and all the volunteers who made the junior golf program a success. The winner of the boys competition was Barry McMenamin and the ladies winner was Sinead Harkin.

The Fred Daly team are doing extremely well in the Fred Daly trophy. They travelled to Dunmurry near Belfast and came home with four matches to one, a fantastic result. They then had the home leg on Monday past and won all five matches they now meet Belvoir Park in the last eight in Ulster The team: Ryan Griffin, Michael Curran, Thomas McMenamin, John Moore and Patrick Patton.

After losing 3-2 away to away to Cavan, Ivan Stewart’s J.B. Carr team needed four matches at home to progress to the Ulster final. All matches were very close, first match won on 19th,  second won on 18th, third won 3-2 , the fourth match 4-3 and last match all square on 15th when called in. Ballybofey and Stranorlar will now meat Rossmore in the Ulster final on Thursday week. Team was Paddy Mullin and Michael Scanlon, Michael O Boyle and Terry Farrell, Michael Hynes and Martin Roarty, Seamus Gallagher and John Bradley, Martin Dillon and JW McNulty.

Whilst Terry Farrell remained at home to fulfill duties for the JB Carr team, the very capable Margaret Hynes travelled to Co Armagh with the mixed team they took on Mahee Island and played fantastic golf to come home with a great victory of three matches to two. It all came down to the last match on the course.

The B&S pairing of Tony Griffin and Mary McHugh sealed the victory on the 18th hole with a great ship on to the Green by Mary to leave Tony with a tap in par.

They now go through to the Ulster semi-final and we wish them the very best of luck. Team: Tony Griffin and Mary McHugh, Freddie Wilson and Dolores Devenney, Fergus McMenamin and Margaret McConnell, John McManaman and Sharon Maloney, Seán Carlin and Josephine Stewart.

With an evening tee time set for Donegal seniors against Nairn and Portnoo, Michael Hynes sent his troops out on home soil to do battle and in fairness to the lads they battled very well and in most cases they came in with early victories.

The first match was won 7 and 6, the second match also 7 and 6 the third match was won on the 18th hole the 4th match was 4 and 2 and the final match was 5 and 4.

The return leg is on Thursday.
