The people of the coastal village of Burtonport have been urged to resist the closure of its post office.

It follows confirmation form An Post that the outlet will close by the end of this year, An Post has confirmed.

Local county councillor Micheal Mac Giolla Easbuig has said that the people of the locality must not sit back and allow the closure.

He said “It’s important that we the community organises against the closure of this vital service, not only at Burtonport and Bunbeg but right across our entire community.

“While some of our TDs will play politics with these closures for their own self-interest, I strongly believe that we the community are the only ones that will fight for no other reason but to keep services opened within your community.

“Myself and Thomas Pringle are organizing to challenge An Post on the closure of our post offices.

“But it’s vital that everybody gets involved and organises against these closures.”

A total of 13 post offices across Donegal have been identified as centres to close by An Post by next January.
