The bad forecast didn’t stop Shane Byrne and Ronnie Whelan’s Charity Golf Classic in association with Irwin Expert Electrical from being a huge success this week.

Irish Soccer legend Ronnie Whelan and former Ireland rugby international Shane Byrne were the stars of the event in aid of Fighting Blindness Ireland, which was held at the Rosapenna Golf Hotel & Resort on Wednesday.

Golfers enjoyed a day out with the celebrities despite the Storm Lorenzo forecast and a great evening of entertainment and prizes was enjoyed by all.

Its a great boost for the area to have this charity event brought to Donegal year after year in aid of various charities.

A lot of money was raised for this year’s chosen cause – Fighting Blindness Ireland.

Fighting Blindness is a patient-led charity with a vision to cure blindness, supporting people living with sight loss and empowering patients. They are the only Irish charity funding research into treatments for sight loss.

To date, they have invested over €18 million in more than 100 research and clinical projects. They provide professional counselling and therapeutic services for individuals and families living with vision impairment and blindness.

They advocate for equity of access to timely and appropriate diagnosis, healthcare, therapies and support services and, through education and information provision, they work to empower the 247,000 children and adults in Ireland who are blind or visually impaired.

Irwin Expert Electrical sponsored this event for a number of years along with Flo Gas and Boc Pix. The prizes ranged from TVs to Tablets and much more.

Declan Irwin was delighted to be associated this year again. Irwin Expert Electrical are in business for over 40 years, with a showroom based in Letterkenny and another in Buncrana. They are the No. 1 Electrical Retail outlet in the North West.

Organisers have said a huge thanks to Gary Keating from GK Events & PR who organised the event and a huge thanks to Rosapenna Hotel and all the golfers who took part.  The team behind Mrs. Brown’s Boys and their cast were also a huge supporter of this event.
