THE competition last weekend at Buncrana Golf Club was the Henry & Co Solicitors Open Stableford and the Wee Links was the place to be over the weekend.

All records were broke for a turnout for any competition with golfers from all over trying to secure one of the coveted prizes.

The course was playing hard with a few difficult pin positions and the windy conditions on Saturday also took its toll.

However Karl King played some of his best golf for a while to shoot a great score of 43 points to win the competition on a break of a tie from Ciaran Bradley and Condy Quinn who both shot 43 points as well.

Karl played some very consistent golf over the 18 holes with 3 over in the front 9 and 2 over in the back 9.

Thanks to his back 9 of 22 points and his superior last 6 holes of 16 points Karl managed to take first prize.

Ciaran Bradley shot a very impressive 5 under gross score on Saturday in some very difficult conditions and took the gross prize easily with 7 shots to spare over his nearest rivals.

The full results of the Henry & Co Solicitors Open Stableford: 1st Karl King (12) 43 points b.o.t., Gross Ciaran Bradley (2) 61 gross, 2nd Condy Quinn (17) 43 points, 3rd Willie Mc Laughlin (22) 41 points, Intermediate Prize (6-12) Brian Bradley (10) 40 points, Best Day (Sat) Shane Devlin (10) 38 points, Visitor Gerard O’ Donnell (12) 32 points and Back 9 Eamon Doherty (18) 23 points. CSS 65/37 points

Midweek Competition

The midweek competition last week was the Declan Coughlan Memorial Open Stableford and there was a great turnout in recognition of our esteemed past member.

On the course it was 3 handicapper Fiachra O’Flaherty who took all the honours with a superb display of golf to equal the course record with a magnificent 6 Under Par round of 60, for an insurmountable 45 points.

Fiachra was 3 under for his first 9 holes and started the back 9 off in style with another birdie, Fiachra had a mild set back with an unfortunate slip up at the tricky 13th where he recorded his only bogey of the day.

After this Fiachra steadied the ship with 2 pars before the finish of all finishes, 3 birdies over the final 3 holes to equal the course record. He now joins Luke Bradley and Christopher McCallion, sharing the course record on 6 under (60).

Three shots further back was Francis Stainsby (7) who shot a great 1 over par round for 42 points to take second place. Gross was won by Oliver Doherty with a super 1 under (65) and Liam Henderson took 3rd place with 39 points.

The full results as follows: 1st Fiachra O’Flaherty (3) 45 points, 2nd Francis Stainsby (7) 42 points, Gross Oliver Doherty (3) 65 gross, 3rd Liam Henderson (21) 39 points, Best day Pauric O’Flaherty (3) 37 points and Back 9 Brendan Murphy (5) 21 points – C.S.S. 38points (64)
