THE competition last weekend at Buncrana Golf Club was the Drift Inn Bar and Restaurant Open, Teams of 4 Bramble and once again there was a fantastic turnout for this popular competition.

With the format permitting 42 scores to be recorded over the 18 holes it was no surprise that there were some great team performances over the two days with every team returning scores in three figures.

The team that mastered the format the best was the maiden team of Tony Hegarty (5), Gerard Gallagher (17), Liam Henderson (21) and Andy Gormley (25) this combination played some remarkable golf to return 124 points.

All the players in the team played their part on the day with long drives, excellent chipping and fantastic putting but a special mention has to go to Andy Gormley who seemed to excel in this format and the change away from his normal fourball seemed to increase his concentration.

Andy will be hoping to bring this form back into his normal fourball over the coming weeks. In second place with another great score of 119 points was the team of Niall McLaughlin (7), Stephen Fitzpatrick (8), Seamus McLaughlin (16) and Mark M Laughlin (22).

Up Coming Competitions:

Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October – The Owen McDaid (Roe) Taxi & Mini-Bus Hire Winter League will commence weekend 3rd and 4th October 2020.

Names are now being taking and the cost to enter is €30.00 per player which covers the 6 weeks of qualifying and the match play knockout stages.

This will be the only competitive golf over the coming weeks and it’s a well recognised fact that anyone who plays in the Winter League sees the consistency remain in their game.

Members are also reminded that the timesheet on a Saturday and Sunday morning will be allocated to players in the Winter League first and no one can book a tee time without contacting the office first.
