A further IT glitch at Letterkenny Univesity Hospital has caused further delays for patients.
The hospital has apologised for the delays.
It follows a failure yesterday at the hospital’s Laboratory IT system.
This comes on top of the backlog caused by the recent Ransomware attack on the overall HSE system.
A spokesperson said “Letterkenny University Hospital is extremely busy today (17th June).
“The situation has been made worse by the failure of our Laboratory IT System for much of the day requiring a return to manual ordering and reporting of blood tests.
“This has resulted in the hospital being under severe pressure and a backlog in the Emergency Department.
“We regret that patients are currently experiencing long waiting times to be admitted from the Emergency Department to an acute bed in the hospital.
“We know these delays are very difficult for our patients and their families.
“Patients needing urgent care will be prioritised. We ask patients to contact their GP or GP Out Of Hours Service in the first instance if their health problem is not urgent.
“We apologise for the long waiting times that patients are currently facing.”
