The e-Tender was published by Donegal County Council on New Year’s Eve.

The project will include 16 two-bedroom apartments and three three-bedroom apartments, including a communal facility and an enclosed private residential courtyard, complete with landscaped area and a new access road.

“The key objective of this scheme is to provide a new exemplar Housing development for older people that will address the housing needs of existing and future residents in Co. Donegal,” said a Donegal County Council submission in July 2020.

Submissions of concern were made by local residents last year about the scale of the development and a lack of discussion of potential alternative solutions. Residents were unable to appeal the decision to An Bord Pleanála before it was progressed.

The communal facility is expected to cater to the needs of older people and “provide a more holistic solution to the current housing demand and aging population.”

According to Donegal County Council: “The scheme has been designed to provide life time adaptable homes which will facilitate community interaction, a safe and secure living environment and combat loneliness amongst older people.”

The response deadline on the etender is 14th February 2022. Following this, tenders will be reviewed and assessed with construction planned for 2022 and 2023.

Construction is also planned for Gallows Lane Social Housing Project in Lifford in 2022 and 2023.
