Woman fined for threatening to kick Aldi shop assistant’s head in

September 28, 2023

A woman who told a shop assistant in Ballybofey that she would ‘kick your head in’ has been fined.

Siobhan Cawley was not present at Letterkenny District Court when her case was heard.

Cawley, a 44-year-old with an address at Mark House, Stranorlar, was charged with an incident on July 30, 2020.

She was charged with using or engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour at Aldi, Chestnut Road, Ballybofey.

Garda Jason Farrell told the court that he handed Cawley a letter informing her of the court date. He said Cawley refused to disclose her current address and later undertook to be at court.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham said she was satisfied to proceed in Cawley’s absence.

Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that Gardai received a call at 3.45pm about a female being abusive to staff.

At the till, Cawley told a shop assistant: “I’ll get you after work. I’ll kick your head in.”

CCTV was obtained and Cawley was identified. When Gardai called to her house and invited her to make a statement after caution, Cawley refused to engage with Gardai.

Judge Cunningham convicted Cawley and fined her €250.
