There is huge sadness in sporting circles and beyond at the passing today of Letterkenny man Patsy Collins.
Affectionately known as Big P, Patsy will be known to generations of young people in the Cathedral Town.
Those who will remember him best will be the many players he worked with in his decades as kit man for Letterkenny Rovers.
He passed away earlier today in the loving care of the staff at the Donegal Hospice.
A townie true and true, Patsy was also a deeply spiritual man.
He walked a daily pilgrimage in rain, hail or snow out to Conwal Graveyard to say a prayer at the graveside of his late sister.
Tonight Letterkenny Rovers posted a moving tribute to one of their own.
The post reads “The club is deeply saddened to learn of the death of our good friend and valued club member Patsy Collins.
“Affectionately known as ‘Big P’, he was a much loved character around Leckview Park who wore the club badge with pride.
“He was our legendary kit man for many years as well as a dedicated weekly lotto seller. Win, lose or draw, Patsy always lightened the mood with his good sense of humour and entertaining company.
“He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. We send our heartfelt condolences to the Collins family at this difficult time.”
His remains will repose at his late residence from today (Sun) at 12noon.
Requiem Mass will take place on Tuesday in St Eunan’s Cathedral, Letterkenny at 1pm with burial afterwards in Conwal Cemetery.
Funeral mass can be viewed at the St Eunan’s webcam.
House private on the morning of the Funeral.
