It may be early days but Donegal’s newly-crowned Rose of Tralee is already being tipped as a possible ‘one to watch’ for this year’s national crown.

Fanad woman Fionnuala Nic Giolla Bhain was a hugely popular choice at the Radisson Hotel in Letterkenny where she was picked from eight finalists.

The former Loreto Communty Schhol, Milford student showed off the musical skills which has seen her become somewhat of an expert on the piano, guitar and other instruments.

Fionnuala, who graduated from both Trinity College Dublin and NUI Galway, is now a secondary school teacher at Scoil Iosagain in Dublin.

There were no prouder people in all of Donegal on Saturday night than Fionnuala’s parents Manus and Marie form Ballylar in Fanad.

“I am just so delighted. I honestly can’t believe it. All the other girls were so great and I was just happy to be in the final on the night.

“When the judges called out my name I was just gobsmacked. It’s a real honour to be chosen as the Donegal Rose and I would love to travel on to he finals in Tralee,” she said.
