Donegal LGFA held their 3rd annual golf classic in Ballybofey & Stranorlar golf club on Friday last.

The weather played its part with the course bathed in sunshine for most of the day.

All the competitors said the course was in excellent condition a real credit to the club and its green staff.

46 teams took to the fairways of the Twin Towns club and for this year’s winners it was a case of 3rd time lucky after two narrow misses on the first two occassions.

The winners where Lawrence Hegarty, Sean Clerkin, Eugene O’Connell and Pat McMyler with a excellent score of 95pts. They were 4th in 2015 & 2nd in 2016 so it was great to see the Buncrana men getting to the top step on the podium this year.

2nd Place went to Jim McGlynn, Seamus Clerkin, Tommy Greally & Ciaran Clerkin with 94pts on BOT . Two birdies on the back nine from Ciaran Clerkin really pushed them up the leaderboard.

3rd went to Kieran Melaugh, Oisín Merritt, Aaron O’Hagan & Raymond Foy also with 94pts

4th Place was Edward Bradley, Francie Martin, James McAlister & Eamon McDonald with 93pts

5th was Paddy McNulty, Eamon Hone, Hugh Cassidy & Brian Neilan with 92pts BOT

6th went to the Mac Cumhaills team of Johnny Brady, John Gallagher, Pauric McGeehan & Conor Henderson also with 92pts

The prize for the best all ladies team was a tight affair with 4 teams within 2pts of the prize. The winners where Eileen Reilly, Anne Sweeney, Anna Dillon & Deirdre Kelly

Nearest the Pin:
Ladies 17th Hole – Margaret McCrossan
Gents 6th Hole – Lawrence Hegarty

Longest Drive:
Ladies 9th Hole – Niamh Hegarty
Gents 16th Hole – Mark Boyle

We would like to thank Ballybofey & Stranorlar Golf Club for being excellent hosts they couldn’t do enough for us to make sure it was the huge success it was.

Thanks again to the green staff the course was in excellent condition.

A massive thank you to all the sponsors it was a sight to behold the amount of sponsors boards on the tee boxes without sponsors we just wouldn’t be able to field 7 teams and give so many young girls the privilege of wearing  the county colours on the fields of this country.
