Ballyliffin Golf Club captain Brian Northey says confirmation that the Glashedy Links will host the 2018 Irish Open is a huge moment ‘for the whole region’.

This morning, at the 2017 Irish Open in Portstewart, Ballyliffin Golf Club was unveiled to stage next year’s event.

“It is a huge undertaking and we want to do it right,” Northey said.

“It’s an absolutely wonderful day. We’re all so excited. Obviously, we knew that this day was coming, but nothing was signed and sealed. We’re over the line now and we’ll look forward to getting ready for it. It’s a big day for the whole region.”

The European Tour CEO, Keith Pelley, played the course recently and was said to have been ‘astounded’ and ‘wowed’ by what he experienced.

Northey said: “We knew our course was good over the years and we hope to get the top players in the world over to play it.”
