There was a gathering in Letterkenny Golf Club last Monday night in honour of Barry Ramsay, who was presented with an Honorary Membership of the Club by Captain Colin Morrow.
Barry’s wife Eilish and Son, Daithi accompanied him along with a large number of friends and Club Members.

He is a long standing member of the Club having joined in 1978.
To date he has been Green Convener, Competitions Secretary, Handicap Secretary, Secretary of the Club as well as Captain and President.
Barry has also been active in the GUI and Donegal Golf Committees having involvement at County, Provincial and National Level.
He believes that as a result of his involvement in Golf he benefited enormously, he experienced great stress working as a Social Worker in Practice and as a Manager however Golf gave him a chance to relax and put to one side the responsibilities of his career and possibly saved him from burnout.
He firmly believes that whatever the club may have gained, however himself, Eilish and his family benefited more from his involvement in golf.

Barry was very appreciative of the Honour bestowed upon him.
He said that having been Captain in the 75th Anniversary Year was special as was being President in the Centenary year, but the honour bestowed upon him as Honorary Member exceeds all those things because those were temporary however this Honorary Membership is permanent.
He recalled Letterkenny Winning the Ulster Cup in 1987 which was a great achievement however the greatest achievement for him was when Letterkenny won the Pierce Purcell Shield in 2009.
He still remembers the effort that went into it and how the President of the GUI had to take him back to the Club House in Tullamore in his buggy as his legs refused to work anymore after the winning putt was holed.
He describes himself as being in a state of collapse with tears streaming down his face. What a marvellous moment.
While Barry is a young seventyish years. he still plays on Club Teams i.e. the All Ireland Four Ball and the Minor League.
It can be difficult to get him some times due to his commitments to GUI business.
With his very able partner Dermot Rainey he played well in the All Ireland Four Ball this year where Letterkenny went to the Ulster Semi-Finals .
