Buncrana Golf Club: Jamie Friel Wins the Hegarty Home Interiors Open Stableford

Members played in very tough and testing conditions over the weekend, scoring was always going to be tough, but a few golfers tamed the conditions and returned some truly magnificent scores.

None more than 21 handicapper Jamie Friel, Jamie has been on form all year and has been knocking on the door in recent weeks. But this week he really came into his own and returned a fantastic 42pts in the rain and wind on Sunday morning. Jamie managed 22pts in his front 9 and backed it up magnificently with a 20pts back 9 for his winning total of 42pts.

2 points further back was Kevin Treacy (22) and Derek Morrison (11) who both returned great scores of 40pts and Kevin took the 2nd prize by virtue of his better back 9.

Gross was won by Niall McLaughlin (7) with his fine score of 70 gross. Niall’s playing partner Seamus McLaughlin (19) won the Best day for his 37pts on Saturday and Evan Doherty (22) won the back 9 with a super score of 23pts which included a magnificent Hole in One at the 18th Hole which propelled him into pole position for the Back 9.

The Full results of the Hegarty’s Home Interiors Open Stableford are as follows; 1st Jamie Friel (21) 42pts, 2nd Kevin Treacy (22) 40pts b.o.t., Gross Niall McLaughlin (7) 70 gross, 3rd Jonny Morrison (11) 40pts, Best Day Seamus McLaughlin (19) 37pts and back 9 Evan Doherty (22) 23pts which included a Hole in One at the 18th.

Captains Prizes

The competition this weekend Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June will be Mr. Benny Murphy’s Captain Prizes. The entrance fee for the Captain’s Prizes is €25.00 which includes entry to the presentation Dinner & Dance on Sunday 2nd June @ 8:00 p.m. sharp in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel and everyone is welcome to attend this presentation Dinner & Dance and tickets can be purchased in the clubhouse.

Captains Events

There will be the traditional Captains Teams of 4 Mixed Scramble on Wednesday 29th May starting @ 6:30 p.m. The teams are now posted on the club house notice board. The Juveniles will play on Thursday 30th May for the Captain’s Prizes.

Find the Joker Fundraising

The “Find the Joker” is up and running again with a Jackpot of €575.00, lines only cost €2 each and this draw is open to members and non-members alike. Lines can be purchased in the clubhouse or through chief seller Oliver Doherty.

Juvenile Lessons

Juvenile Lessons for boys & girls have commenced on Wednesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and the cost is €5.00.

Meal Deal Competition

The winner of last weeks Meal Deal was Paul Mc Daid (13) who played some great golf to shoot 40 pts. The Meal Deal Competition will run every Thursday and the cost to enter this competition is €18.00 for members and €25.00 for visitors.

The competition entry includes an 18 hole open Stableford and a fantastic two course meal in the award-winning Drift Inn Bar & Restaurant after your game.

Don’t despair if you can’t use your meal deal voucher on the day of the competitions it can be used on Fridays as well. This is the best meal deal about and with the greens the best in the county it’s an excellent opportunity to experience the course and savour from fantastic food afterwards.
