Dunfanaghy golfer selected on Ulster team for Interprovincial Championships

James T Sweeney from Dunfanaghy Golf Club has been selected to represent the Ulster Under 14 golf team.

James will join his Ulster team mates this week to play Leinster, Munster and Connacht at the underage Interprovincial Championships to be held at Athlone Golf Club from Tuesday 22 to Thursday 24 July 2019.

James’ talent was identified some years ago via the Golfing Union of Ireland, which runs regional development sessions through the winter in Derry and other centres throughout Ulster.

Through this pathway program, James has emerged as a real talent by regularly competing and winning adult competitions.

One recent eye-catching example was the Dunfanaghy Intermediate cup which he won in horrendous weather conditions.

“Much thanks goes to Seamus McMonagle, his coach, his parents James and Irene and to Brian Dolan for getting Dunfanaghy junior golf to the level where it is producing representative players,” a statement said.
