THE THREE Portsalon Golf Club teams still competing for silverware were all in action last week, with a mixed bag of results.

Paul Armstrong’s Over 50s hosted Letterkenny on Wednesday afternoon in the first leg of the Seniors Final.

On a blustery afternoon, it was the visiting side that made the best of the conditions as they grabbed a 3-2 lead to take home. Portsalon will face a tough challenge in the return game this Sunday in Letterkenny.

It was also the visitors from Barnhill who left happiest on Sunday evening after the first leg of the Donegal League decider. Cathal Canning’s home team were held to a 2.5 matches each scoreline in Portsalon, with Letterkenny four holes up and holding the advantage. The second leg takes place in Letterkenny this Saturday at midday.

Patrick Kelly’s Minor League team will also do battle with Letterkenny for the silverware this season after they overhauled a first leg deficit in defeating Buncrana 5-0 on Sunday in their semi-final second leg in Portsalon.

Dates and times for the Minor League final are still to be confirmed.

Ladies

Past Captains’ Day Saturday, September 14

There was a fabulous turn out of Portsalon Past Lady Captains on Saturday despite the damp conditions and the course being very busy. Some great scores were carded. The top prize and trophy was won 2017 Lady Captain Sheila Horner (36) with 39 points followed closely by 2004 Lady Captain Anne Busch (26) 38 points.

In third place was 1983 Lady Captain Geraldine Wall (23) 35 points BOT. Front 9 and Back 9 prizes were won both on BOT by Anne Speedie, 2001 Lady Captain and 2007 Lady Captain Roisin McCormack.

The perpetual trophy and prizes were presented by this year’s Lady Captain Mary Flynn.

In her speech Mary thanked everyone for attending and admired the great gathering of past lady captains. Mary expressed her delight in hosting a celebration for all the ladies who had devoted their year as Lady Captain.

Mary also paid tribute to all those who had made the day such a great success including the competition sponsors ‘Healthwise Pharmacy’ Milford, Roisin Gibbons and staff for the marvellous meal and Sarah Nicholl for the welcomed pre-golf tempting treats.

Sunday Members, September 15: Winner Karen McGlinchey (23) 37 points and Runner Up, two days in row Anne Busch (26) 36 points

Date for the Diary: After consultation and consideration the rescheduled Lady Captain’s outing will be an away day on Saturday 5th October 2019 in Dunfanaghy GC. Tee booked 1pm followed by meal in club house. Further details will be sent by email.
