GOLF remains the sole flag-bearer of competitive sport in Donegal now – and for one golfer it was a historic weekend with a first ever hole-in-one!

Kevin McFadden aced the 12th hole at Portsalon Golf Club while competing in the Gents Members competition.

The competition was won by James Durning’s 41 points with Brendan Gallagher second on 39 points.

A big highlight of the day was Kevin’s hole-in-one on the 12th.

Playing partner James Friel has speculated he judged it to coincide with the government closing the pubs in order to save getting a round in afterwards!

Sunday 15th March – Gents Members

Winner: James Durning (20) – 41 pts

Runner-up: Brendan Gallagher (12) – 39 pts

Gross: Seamus Patton (5) – 29 gross pts

Third: Michael Shiels (15) – 37 pts

Hole-In-One: Kevin McFadden (12th)

Portsalon Open Winter Series Finale

The final event in the 2019/20 Open Winter Series sponsored by Auto Fast Fit Letterkenny and Michelin Tyres took place on Saturday.

John Barry collected the win on the day with a fine score of 39 points but it was daily runner-up David McCormick with most to celebrate.

The five-handicapper went into the weekend leading the way in the overall series, just ahead of last year’s winner Daniel Shields, and his 38 points tied up the winners’ slot. Congrats to David, winner of the Overall Top Prize, a set of Michelin tyres worth €500. Safe and happy motoring, David!

Portsalon Open Winter Series – Saturday 15th March

Winner: John Barry (22) – 39 pts

Runner-up: David McCormick (6) – 38 pts

Gross: Michael McGeady (+3) – 33 gross pts

Third: Damian Toland (8) – 36 pts

Visitor: Alan Cheung (12 Faughan Valley) – 32 pts
