A third meeting of the Defective Blocks Working Group has resulted in two positive assurances for Mica-affected homeowners.
However, with no major results on 100% redress yet, families stated that they will face no alternative but to protest in Dublin again.
Mica Action Group representatives said good progress was made with the government working group today.
They welcomed two new changes to the scheme, which are:
- SEAI grant – these can be applied for for homes built before 2011.
- Extensions to existing properties exhibiting signs of mica – these can be applied for under the scheme.
Eileen Doherty, PRO of the Mica Action Group, said that the government have promised to support affected families with regard to the following issues:
Ms Doherty said that the Department of Housing will action the supports soon if no changes to existing legislation is required.
The Department, Ms Doherty said, will also support all necessary resource requirements by Donegal County Council as they administer the Mica Redress Scheme.
“We welcome these changes to the scheme but acknowledge that we still have significant work to do over the next few weeks,” Ms Doherty said.
They acknowledged that many of the substantive issues were not discussed due to time constraints, but a comprehensive document will be issued to the team on Monday ahead of the next meeting on Wednesday 21st July.
