All set for Stephen Connolly’s Captain’s Day at Portsalon

THIS Saturday July 24th is Mr Stephen Connolly’s Captain’s Day at Portsalon Golf Club.

After the Covid-interrupted 2020 golfing year, Stephen will be relieved to finally see the big day arriving, 12 months later than expected.

Golfers will be treated to a BBQ on completion of their round, and with indoor dining remaining off-limits, they are welcome to have a drink outside the clubhouse where seating will be provided.

Fingers cross the current heat-wave sees through until the weekend as Major golf returns to Portsalon.

Open Week 2021

Portsalon Golf Club’s Open Week was a huge success and all at the club are grateful to those that supported it in any way. We had 1,179 competing golfers across the week, approximately 300 of those visiting from other clubs in Donegal and 165 from clubs around Ireland.

These were excellent numbers and the course was busy throughout.

Amongst the highlights was the Donegal Hospice Fundraising Day on, where members managed to raise in excess of €2,000 to go towards that iconic and invaluable institution. Well done too all who played on the day and, indeed, to everyone that visited Portsalon during the busy Open Week.

Open Week Golfer of the Week

Congrats to Patrick McGowan on being ‘Golfer of the Week’ across the 2021 Festival of summer golf in Portsalon. Paddy had two wins over the duration, landing the Gents Singles Stroke sponsored by Total Golf on Friday 9th and marching to success a second time with his win in the Gents & Ladies Singles Stableford sponsored by Keating Amenities on Monday July 12th.

Playing off 10, Paddy recording a stunning tally of 46 points on Monday past, going around the course in a level-par gross score. A fantastic effort and enough to see him crowned Golfer of the Week, with his prize very kindly sponsored by AK Golf.

Runner-up was Aidan McCafferty, the fast-improving Milford man also having won twice in Open Week. There wasn’t a lot to split them, with Paddy edging the verdict on scoring count-back across the week.

Thanks to everyone for supporting Portsalon’s 2021 Open Week events and, of course, to our incredibly generous sponsors – without whose support we couldn’t host you all!
