Glencar Celtic 5 v 0 Strand Rovers
Glencar took the lead early on when Pajo Rafferty set up Peter Doherty to tap in. They then got their second with a great solo goal from Paddy Collins and Rafferty made it three with a great strike from outside the box. Second half started pretty much the same with Glencar dominating the possession and went four up when Pajo’s strike from inside the box hit the top corner. Pajo then finished off the scoring and his hat-trick with another great strike from outside the box
Glenea United Reserves 0 v 0 Donegal Town Reserves
Glenea and Donegal Town Reserves played out a hard-fought draw and shared the points. In a tight opening first half chances were at a premium with both defences well on top. As halftime approached the away side started to get on top and almost opened the scoring on 38 minutes when Ciaran Monaghan’s cross from the right was turned just over the bar by the in rushing Tom O’ Grady. On the stroke of halftime Shaun Mc Clafferty in the home goal made a fine save from Ciaran O’Reilly and Ian Campbell headed the rebound against the bar. The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with neither side able to create any clear-cut chances, with Donegal Town’s best effort coming after 70 minutes when Adam Wilson saw his effort from the edge of the box clip the top of the bar. As full time approached both sides pushed hard for a winner with Glenea’s best efforts coming from James Geaney and Anthony Browne which forced Dermot Mc Cafferty into a couple of fine saves to keep the game scoreless. Best for Glenea were
Robbie Murray and Ciaran O’Donnell, while Noel Gavigan and Ciaran O’ Reilly were best for Donegal Town.

Oldtown Celtic 5 v 3 Keadue Rovers Reserves
Keadue got out of the traps early and took the lead when a dangerous cross was turned into the net by an Oldtown defender. They soon doubled their lead when Pauric Neely headed home at the back post from a corner. Oldtown were stunned and had a mountain to climb. Oldtown were awarded a penalty when Micheal Doherty was fouled in the box and Kevin Mc Grath converted to bring Oldtown back into the contest. They soon equalised when a corner wasn’t cleared and Sean Cleary fired home from close range. Both teams had chances to go in front but it was Oldtown who converted when Moe Friel headed home at the back post. 3-2 at the break. The 2nd half began, end to end with neither side able to score before Oldtown started turning the screw with the Keadue goalkeeper pulling off a fantastic save from Mc Grath before Mc Grath did convert to make it 4-2. Keadue managed to pull one back with 15 minutes to go when Michael Greene fired home and it was game on again. Oldtown were awarded the a 2nd penalty which the Keadue keeper saved to keep the score at 4-3. Keadue threw in everything they had but were unable to find an equaliser before Micheal Doherty sealed the win with a great free kick from the edge of the area.
Team effort from both sides in what was a great battle and spectacle
Old Orchard Saturday Division Two
Castlefin Celtic Reserves 5 v 1 Copany Rovers
Castlefin ran out convincing winners over Copany in Parkview on Saturday. A second half hat-trick from Reece Gallagher saw the hosts have a comfortable evening after a tight first half. Goals from Tomas Gamble & Ryan O’ Hagan for the hosts either side of an Eoin Rush finish brought the end to an eventful first half. Then Gallagher stole the show in the second.

Gweedore Celtic Reserves 1 v 1 Dunlewey Celtic
The local derby ended with honours even at an Screaban with both goals coming in the final ten minutes. It was a game of few chances with both defences dominating. Dunlewey started the stronger of the two teams but the home team featuring five of their under sixteen players soon settled into their task and were deserving of a point in the end. The more experienced Dunlewey team pinned Gweedore back in the earlier stages but without creating any clear-cut chances. Alan Doherty and Fionn Bonner tried to break through the Dunlewey rearguard but their crosses were well defended. The second half was a more open contest and both goalkeepers, Joe Mc Gee for Na Ceiltigh and Lorcan Gallagher for Dunlewey, had to be on their toes to keep the scores level. Brendan Mc Geady was instrumental in many of the away team’s moves and it was he who struck with ten minutes to go to give Dunlewey the lead. A mistake by a Gweedore defender allowed Mc Geady to run at the keeper and he finished cooly past Mc Gee for a goal that seemed to have settled the derby. The young Gweedore team responded well to the set back and went to try and rescue a point. James Gallagher headed wide from an Alan Doherty corner. Soon after Doherty’s free kick was not dealt with by Dunlewey and substitute Peter Carragher nipped in at the back post to score his first senior goal and the Gweedore equaliser. Dunlewey had one more chance in injury time but Joe Mc Gee saved well and the points were shared. For Gweedore Micheal Mc Gee was outstanding ably assisted by Alan Doherty, Dylan O’Donnell and James Gallagher. For Dunlewey Brendan Mc Geady, Paul Coll and Ronan Mc Devitt played well. Referee: Con Mc Loughlin
Ramelton Mariners 1 v 2 Drumoghill F.C. Reserves
The Mariners fell to another defeat against Drumoghill in Rathmullan. An early corner wasn’t cleared and left the Mariners trailing within 10 minutes. The Mariners responded well and dominated the rest of the second half but couldn’t get their goal. Drumoghill camped out in their 18-yard box for most of the second half and spent the rest of the half on the floor wasting time but managed to get a second goal against the run of play. Mariners got a goal back late on through Evan Hewitt but failed to get another to secure a draw
Swilly Rovers Reserves 2 v 0 Drumbar United
In a tightly contested match at Swilly Park, the home team, Swilly Rovers, secured a 2-0 victory over Drumbar United, with both goals coming from set pieces in the second half. The first half was marked by strong defensive performances from both teams, with neither side managing to break the deadlock. Drumbar United’s goalkeeper, and Swilly Rovers’ shot-stopper had little to do. The intensity of the match escalated in the second half, as Swilly Rovers began to assert their dominance. It was from set pieces that the breakthroughs would come. In the 65th minute, Swilly Rovers earned a free-kick just outside the penalty area. Leon Boyce, stepped up to take the set piece. With pinpoint accuracy, he curled the ball into the box, finding the head of Tony Gallagher to make it 1-0 in favour of Swilly Rovers. Drumbar United responded with determination, seeking an equaliser, but the Swilly Rovers defence held firm. The home team extended their lead from another set piece, this time a corner kick. In the 75th minute, Ryan Moore, delivered the ball into the box. After a bit of ping pong like touches in the box Tony Gallagher got his and Swilly’s 2nd goal of the game. Despite Drumbar United’s efforts to mount a comeback, they couldn’t find the back of the net. Swilly Rovers held on to their lead until the final whistle, securing the victory with both goals coming from expertly executed set pieces.

Fanad United Reserves 6 v 4 Lagan Harps Reserves
Under the lights in good weather conditions at Trialough, Fanad started off great. A cross into the box from Dylan Mc Gloin in the first 2 minutes of the game is narrowly missed by Alan Mc Ateer as it just brushes the top of the striker’s head. 22 minutes in and Lagan gets a soft free kick at left side of box. No. 10 Ross Hamlyn swings a great ball into the box. Which neither side reach and the ball goes into the back of net. 25 minutes in and a brilliant one two exchange from Lagan strikers, No. 10 Ross and No 11 Eamonn Cannon on edge of box leads to Eamonn putting the ball into back of net. 28 minutes Lagan given another free kick in a similar position. No. 10 Ross swings ball into box and the ball drops nicely for No. 11 Eamonn who puts it into back of the net. 31 minutes gone and a Lagan clearance from a Fanad attack sees the ball land nicely for Daibhid Lynch who hits an absolute screamer from 30+ yards. 34 minutes Daibhid gives a great ball to Dylan, Dylan hits a beautiful shot that Lagan No. 2 Seamy Cullen clears. One minute later a great run down the wing and cross into the box from Patrick Moffit lands to Dylan who hits a perfect strike past the keeper Kai Browne. 5 minutes later an exchange just outside the box from the two Fanad strikers Dylan and Cormac Sweeney, sees Cormac hitting a rocket of a shot from the edge of box that the Lagan keeper just couldn’t reach. 3 – 3. Lovely one two exchange with Alex Gerwatowski and Daibhid in the first 2 minutes of 2nd half sees Daibhid get taken to the ground inside the box. Darragh O’ Doherty steps up on 48th minute and scores the penalty. 4 -3. 14 minutes into 2nd half and Brian Gallagher makes a great save from Lagan No. 10 Ross shot at edge of box. 4 minutes later a shot cleared of Lagan’s line by No. 2 Seamy, the ball comes out to Daibhid who puts another shot into the net. 33 minutes into 2nd half, Lagan’s No. 10 Ross scored a great shot at edge of box into top right corner that Brian Gallagher just couldn’t reach. Just 3 minutes later Alex sprints towards the goal and smashes the ball, Lagan’s keeper gets a hand to it but the shot had too much power on it. 6 – 4. 3 minutes later, Alex runs through the Lagan defenders with great speed to find the other end of a massive long ball from Caolan Mc Elwaine. He tries to lob the keeper, but the ball just brushes the crossbar. The final chance of the game with brilliant cross by Daibhid sees Dylan trying a first-time volley that just passes shy of the left post. Referee: Con McLaughlin
Gweedore United Reserves 7 v 2 Drumkeen United Reserves
Gweedore ran out convincing winners after a strong first half performance. Caoimhin Lynch started the scoring for the home side in the 14th minute after a good shot from a tight angle. The home side continued to create good chances through James Mc Glinchey, Francis Gallagher and Stephen Mulhern, however, it was two goals from Ownie Gallagher that made it 3-0 by the 26th minute. Francis Gallagher headed in from a corner in the 31st minute to make it 4-0. Owenie Gallagher completed his hat-trick and United’s 5th when he headed in from a Lynch corner to make it 5-0 in the 34th minute. Drumkeen pulled one back in the 36th minute with a good shot from outside the box by Liam Grant to make it 5-1 at half time. In the second half, the visitors came out fighting and saw a good chance from Luke Toye go just over. The home side began to be dominated again and in the 77th minute Caoimhin Lynch made it 6-1 with a delightful free kick from just outside the box. In the 84th minute Ronan O Donnell made it 7-1 when he headed in from close range. Drumkeen pulled one back in the 88th minute when Tiernan Mc Caffrey scored from close range after Desi Beshaw’s shot came back of the bar. Gweedore played well on the day with a man of the match performance from Ownie Gallagher. Referee: Dessie Mc Laughlin.
Letterkenny Rovers Reserves 4 v 4 Bonagee United Reserves
In a thrilling derby clash at Leckview, Bonagee got off to the perfect start just 2 minutes into the game. It was a set piece situation, a free kick from about 35 yards out on the left. Fintan Hassan made a clever run down the left wing, receiving the free kick. He drove the ball across the six-yard box, and at the back post, Ricky Guntrip tapped it into the Rover’s net, giving Bonagee the early lead. Moments later, another free kick was awarded just outside the 18-yard box, this time for a foul on Fintan Hassan. Daniel Wajcilm stepped up and struck the ball low to the right of the wall, slotting it into the right side of the goal to make it 0-2 in favour of Bonagee. Rovers managed to pull one back when a corner, delivered into the box by Gareth Temple, was headed into the goal by James Gallagher. The score stood at 1-2, and still only 10minutes played. In the 11th minute, Fintan Hassan delivered a precise through ball for Ultan Mc Mullan, who crossed it well. The ball was met and finished well by Noah Barrett, extending Bonagee’s lead to 3-1. In the 36th minute, a penalty was awarded when Danny Hall was taken down in the box. Danny converted from the spot, keeping Rovers in the game with a score of 2-3 at halftime. As the second half began, Rovers settled in and controlled large portions of the game, but Bonagee remained a threat when in possession. In the 61st minute, Bonagee had a chance to extend their lead, but Caolan Mc Garrigle’s strike hit the right post. Rovers had a good opportunity in the 73rd minute when Conor O’Donnell’s corner was headed over the bar by Darragh Morrison. Rovers managed to equalise in the 77th minute when a high ball over the Bonagee defence was met by Jason Doherty, who controlled it beautifully and slotted it into the net, beyond the reach of Bonagee’s keeper, John Carr. In the 83rd minute, Rovers had a chance to take the lead when Ciaran Doherty’s powerful strike hit the right corner of the crossbar. However, it was Bonagee who regained the lead in the 85th minute with a free kick delivered high into the box from close to the halfway line. Sean Hume’s header lobbed Rovers’ keeper, Mark Margey, giving Bonagee a one-goal lead. Rovers continued to battle in the dying moments, two minutes into injury time, Jordan Nugent unleashed a great strike from 30 yards out, beating Carr and levelling the score. The final whistle blew with the scoreline at 4-4, a great derby clash. Referee: Alister Gourley.

Keadue Rovers 5 v 3 Swilly Rovers
Keadue Rovers came out on top in this very entertaining game at Central Park to move up to 5th in the table following this goal fest. Played in cool, damp conditions, Swilly were first off the block in a crazy first twenty minutes, when Shane McNamee slotted home to give the visitors the lead. However this was short lived as within two minutes, Keadue were level when a foul on Peter McGee, lead to a spot kick which was well dispatched by Chris Greene for 1-1. In the eight minute, it was 2-1 to Keadue, when following a good move and ball through the middle, Aidan Brennan was on hand to fire home. However the action was far from over and on fourteen minutes, Swilly who were on top in possession, got the leveller their play deserved when Klye Black made it 2-2 from the penalty spot following an entanglement in the box. Astonishingly there was to be a 5th goal in the eighteenth minute, when Peter McGee flicked home from close range from a Martin Ferry knock down to make it 3 – 2 to Keadue. After a hectic start, things did settle down a little after that, with Swilly still on top in possession and the home side prepared to absorb the pressure and hit on the break. The away side did create a good number of half chances but some last ditch tackling by the Keadue defence managed to keep them at bay and at half time it was 3-2 to the home side. At the start of the 2nd half, Keadue were well on the front foot, pressing with pace and it was in the forty eight minute that the home side went two up when Peter McGee’s run was upended and Chris Greene was on hand to punish the error from the spot to make it 4-2. On fifty seven minutes, Keadue again went close when Paul Yank Boyle was close with a scissors kick from inside the box. Back came Swilly and they shot wide after the hour mark and two minutes later, they headed wide after a sustained period of possession. Keadue brought on a substitute Jordan Saville and he began to cause problems holding the ball up in attack and providing an outlet for the home team. Swilly though refused to give up and eight minutes from the end, scored a fine glancing header through Ciaran Kelly. Just then, it looked like they were going to get a share of the spoils, a free kick delivered deep into the Swilly area caused a bit of panic, when one of their defenders got a foot to the ball and prodded it past their own keeper to give Keadue a 5-3 lead which was the last contribution to a most eventful day’s football, which gave a vital 3 points to the home team moving them up to 5th in the league.
A good team performance from Swilly with Shane McNamee and Kyle Black the pick of their players, while for Keadue, Peter McGee, Chris Greene and Michael Greene got through some good work.
Referee : Vincent McLaughlin.
Milford United 2 v 2 Gweedore Celtic
Gweedore Celtic returned over Errigal a lot happier with the point than the home side, thanks to an injury time equaliser by Odhran Mc Niallais. Milford got off to a brilliant start when Eoin O’Donnell broke through from the half way line and put Gary Merritt through and the striker made no mistake hitting the bottom corner. Ten minutes later good work by Corey Lee Mc Conigley and Darragh Black found Merritt who worked a great opportunity and rifled to the roof of the net. Milford failed to deal with a ball on the end line and Roarty cut inside three men and his cross was not dealt with and Conan Mc Fadden scored. Gweedore pushed for an equaliser during the second half and Milford looked dangerous on the counter attack and Michael Mc Kelvey denied Merritt on two occasions, Darragh Black and Ryan Canning. As the game ticked into injury time and free kick from the left was whipped and Odhran Mc Niallais diving header sailed into the bottom corner to the delight of Gweedore and a deflated home side. Referee: Packie Coll.
St. Catherines 4 v 4 Castlefin Celtic
The old cliché of “a game of two halves“ definitely describes the most exciting encounter at Emerald Park this season. Castlefin bossed the first half while the home team only started to settle and play in the second period. The opening goal came on 15 minutes as Mark Lafferty casually finished from a superb cross ball from the right catching the uneasy Saints’ defence napping. Less than a minute later the Saints had an equaliser from the excellent Ryan Cunningham. His first touch was sublime when he latched onto a long clearance and struck with his left from the edge of the area giving the away keeper no chance.
Castlefin were not out for a Sunday stroll and had the Saints under pressure for long periods. They got their just rewards on 40 minutes when Dean Kelly struck a brilliant right foot free kick from 25 yards leaving the home keeper rooted to the spot as the ball flew to corner of the net. Castlefin hadn’t finished their first half account at that as Rabat Hamdi had an easy finish after the slippery conditions played foul to the Saints’ centre halves attempts to clear and the score line read 3-1 to the visitors for the half time interval. The home team must have received the hairdryer treatment during the break as they came out a more determined outfit and started to play attacking football. 67 minutes in saw the start of the fight back as a cross from the right was never really dealt with by Mark Gordon (who had a super game for the visitors) and a toe poke from Josh Cunningham saw the start of a revival. The game now at 3-2 the next goal was going to be crucial and once again the never say die Josh Cunningham fired home for the equaliser. In their quest for a winner the Saints left themselves light at the back and Jordan Mc Kinney exploited this on 75 minutes when he found himself unmarked deep in the Saints’ box and made no mistake with his header and now a 4 – 3 lead for Castlefin. The home crowd felt there was a chance or two left in this game and this was the case as Tiernan Gallagher stood firm in the away goal stopping shot after shot. But on 89 minutes man of the match Ryan Cunningham rose high to meet a floated cross from the left boot of Kyle Mc Geoghan, where his flicked on header went high above the helpless goalkeeper for 4 – 4 to set the home fans ecstatic and the prospect of a late winner. This never materialised and Dessy Mc Laughlin blew for full time on 95 minutes leaving both teams with a share of the spoils which at the end of the day was the fairest result. Credit to both teams for serving up an excellent game of football in tricky wet conditions.
Temple Domestic Appliances Division One
Convoy Arsenal 1 v 5 Donegal Town
In the 14th minute Donegal opened the scoring after a good through ball and Ronan Mc Hugh made no mistake. They could have doubled their lead two minutes later when Luke Magee got a good hand on a shot from twenty yards and put it onto the post. In the 21st minute Convoy levelled when a corner from Anthony Bogle was met with a powerful header from Gary Brolly. In the 25th minute Donegal regained their lead with a shot that somehow deceived the Convoy keeper at the near post and two minutes later Mc Hugh made it 3-1. Ten minutes before the break the visitors settled the game when Ronan Mc Hugh grabbed his third when he made no mistake from close range. The second half didn’t meet the expectations of the first, it was injury time before any real clear-cut chance came and Donegal made it 5-1.
Ronan Mc Hugh was excellent for the visitors.
Gweedore United 3 v 0 Glenea United
This local derby played in front of a big support from both clubs started at a frantic pace. The home side got an early goal in the 2nd minute when a nice move from the back fell to Stephen Doyle Mc Fadden who put Ciaran Mc Fadden in to finish well past Joe Coll. It was a tight affair after that with Gweedore looking the more dangerous of both sides. In the second half the game began to open up as Glenea went in search of an equaliser. The home side saw decent chances through Cathal Gillespie with a shot in the 53rd minute going just wide. Fionnan Coyle went close when his shot went just over in the 56th minute. Cathal Mc Geever looked good for the visitors throughout. The home side got fresh legs onto the pitch and began to boss the game in the last quarter. In the 85th minute the home side ensured the three points when Ethan Harkin headed in at the back post for 2-0 following a great delivery by Mark Mc Fadden from a corner.
In the 87th minute Brian Mc Fadden played Niall Friel in to tap in to give the Carrickboyle side a well-deserved three points. It was a good display of football from the home side with Ethan Harkin outstanding. Cathal Mc Geever impressed for Glenea on the day. Referee: Mick Lagan.
Letterbarrow Celtic 1 v 7 Bonagee United
Tough conditions in Letterbarrow didn’t seem to affect the away side who started very strong and were soon awarded for their efforts with a well worked goal. Letterbarrow tried to respond but failed to break the away defence and Bonagee soon doubled their lead before adding a third before the break.
Letterbarrow responded well and Eoin McHugh scored a well worked goal. Letterbarrow struggled to deal with Bonagee’s talent in attack and the away side put the game to bed when they added a fourth goal. Letterbarrow struggled further when Bonagee brought on some fresh young players. They added a further three goals in the last 15 minutes giving them a comfortable win. A tough day out for Letterbarrow.

Dunkineely Celtic 1 v 5 Deele Harps
Both teams started brightly and created chances but it was Harps who took the lead on 7 minutes. Dunkineely rallied and were denied by a fine save from the Deele keeper from a strike by Pauric Cunningham, the rebound fell to Adrian Nesbitt who could only put the ball across the goal and wide. Deele extended their lead to on 27 minutes and that was how it remained until just before half time when Adrian Nesbitt pulled one back for the home team. The second half was dominated by Deele who added three more goals for a deserved win. Scorers for Deele, Thomas Muller (2), Corey Lindsey, Declan Lafferty and Josie Duffy.
Kerrykeel’71 F.C. 3 v 0 Drumkeen United
A perfect day for football with Rabs Park in great condition and the ‘71 made it four from four. The first half was a tight affair with the home side on top but found Mc Cauley in nets had to beat. He made great saves from Johnny Nanny and Kevin Loughrey and Geard Mc Ateer also went close. Benji up top for Drumkeen tested Shaun Friel late in the first half but Friel made a great stop at his near post. Kerrykeel came out second half with real intention and went in front on the 46 minute when Kevin Loughrey fired home after good work from Ryan Mc Ginley. A minute later it was two this time Kevin with a penalty after hand ball. The home side missed a few before a Marty Mc Ateer free kick in the 89th minute sealed the win. Shaun Kerr and Michael Mc Devitt were best for the ’71. Team effort from Drumkeen. Referee: Patrick Martin.

Raphoe Town 2 v 2 Whitestrand United
Two young teams in action at Drumineney set the tone for an exciting contest. Raphoe struck first in the 14th minute when Anton Murtagh sent Oisin Kelly down the wing to cross for Kyle Martin to head home 1-0. However, one minute later Whitestrand bounced straight back with a superb volley from just inside the box to make it all square again. 1-1. Raphoe were unlucky not to take the lead when Kyle Martin hit the post and the Goalkeeper made a great save from an Oisin Kelly free kick. Whitestrand struck next when a free kick was crossed into the box for a tap in and it was 1-2 at the break. The away side started the second half strong and had some chances but Oran Kelly linked up with Kyle Martin to pull it back to 2-2. Both teams had half chances but it finished all even with good team performances from both sides.
