Man pleads guilty to assaulting nurse and Garda at hospital

A Lifford man has pleaded guilty to a range of charges including coercive control, assaulting a Garda and assaulting a nurse.

Joseph Colhoun appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court before Judge John Aylmer.

Colhoun, aged 41, who is now on remand at Castlerea Prison, spoke only to plead guilty to each charge.

He is charged with assault causing harm to Nicole McEntaggart at An Clarach, Killyclug, Letterkenny on November 27th, 2022 to which he pleaded guilty.

He is also charged with the coercive control of the same woman on an unknown date between January 1st and November 22nd, 2022 at the same address.

He is further charged with assault causing harm to Ms McEntaggart on June 27th, 2022 and also on November 27th, 2022.

At Letterkenny University Hospital on November 27th, 2022, he is charged with assaulting a Stephen McCabe under the Non Fatal Against the Persons Act to which eh also pleaded guilty.

He is also charged with the obstruction of Garda David Lee at Letterkenny University Hospital on November 27th, 2022 at Letterkenny University Hospital.

At the same location and same date he pleaded guilty to assaulting causing harm to Garda David Lee.

He is also charged with the obstruction of Garda Shane Wall at Letterkenny University Hospital on the same date.

Colhoun also pleaded guilty to assaulting nurse Veronica Dunleavy at Letterkenny University Hospital on NOvember 27th, 2022.

Finally, he is charged with breaching a barring order imposed on November 16th, 2022 at An Clarach, Killyclug, Letterkenny on November 27th, 2022.

Barrister for Colhoun, Ms Kelda Doherty, BL, said her client was currently undertaking a number of courses at Castlerea Prison and is making good progress.

She asked for a Governor’s Report in the case and also a Probation Report for Colhoun.

Judge Aylmer agreed and adjourned the case for sentencing during the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.
