A raffle to help a popular St. Johnston woman following a shock cancer diagnosis has raised an amazing €13,500 overnight.
Patrice Mc Crossan (née Rodgers), aged 32, discovered she had acute aggressive leukaemia last Friday. She was sent to Galway for treatment two days later.
The news came as a huge shock for Patrice and her husband Gary. Together they have four children aged between 7 months and 9 years.
As their family step in to support them, people of the St. Johnston community and beyond have also banded together to support the Mc Crossans with financial aid.
Local woman Kirsty Curran set up a raffle fundraiser on GoFundMe on Thursday, which has generated overwhelming goodwill. More than 400 donations have brought the total to €13,500 as of lunchtime today.
Kirsty said: “Thank you to everybody for their kind donations and messages offering to help. I have many more businesses looking to donate and I plan to get a list updated soon. In a couple of weeks time I will number the donates and hold the raffle.”
Kirsty adds that Patrice is a strong woman with a long road ahead of her.
“She is starting 4 weeks daily chemo and undergoing a lot of tests,” Kirsty wrote on GoFundMe. “A little donation just to help with kids and expenses of family travelling back and forth to be at her side and that they don’t have the burden of worrying about money on top of everything they are going through.”
