Buncrana Golf Club honours late President Daniel Lynch with posthumous prizes

Buncrana Golf Club is set to hold the Posthumous Presidents Prizes this Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th June in memory of their late President Mr. Daniel Lynch, who passed away in May.

Daniel had been a valued member of the club since the early 1990s.

Daniel had the preparations made and the plans in place for his President’s prize, so along with his family the committee and members thought it would only be right to honour Daniel’s wishes. In these unusual circumstances, Daniels’s competition will be an Open to give everyone that may have knowing him the opportunity to play and show their respect.

There will be refreshments afterwards in the clubhouse function from 11:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday for anyone who played or may wish to call to the clubhouse to show their respect.

“Daniel was a Past Captain as well as being into his third year as Club President and was a great ambassador for the club and members. Daniel’s recent death was a sad day for his family all at the club as Daniel was held in a very high esteem,” a spokesperson said.

EVENTS:

Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th June – Mr. Daniel Lynch’s Posthumous Presidents Prizes – An Open Stableford to be held in memory of our late club President Mr. Daniel Lynch.

Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd June – Open Stroke – Sponsored by McGeough Financial Consultants.

Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th June – The Frank Callaghan Memorial Open Stableford – Sponsored by Callaghan Jewellers Buncrana.

Drive It Home Draw

It is over 20 years since the clubhouse was built and it is now at the stage where it needs refurbished.

The Buncrana Golf Club is not like the other big golf clubs as it is a community project and maintains the membership fees and green fees as low as possible to ensure everyone in the community and surrounding area can avail of a golfing facility at a reasonable cost. Because of this the club has very little fund available for any major developments and to raise funds for this clubhouse development a Major Prize Draw will be run.

Pictured (L-R) are: Brian McCracken, one of the organisers of the ‘Drive It Home’ car draw, Christopher McCallion, who
plays off scratch at Buncrana Golf Club, and Margaret McAteer, Secretary of the Ladies branch of Buncrana Golf Club.

The Drive It Home Draw will have €41,000.00 in prizes with the main prize being a Hyundai i30 N-Line car valued at €30,000.00.

The second prize will be €5,000.00, third €3,000.00, fourth €2,000.00 and fifth €1,000.00. The ticket will cost €25.00 each or 3 x tickets for €50.00 and 7 x tickets for €100.00.

As the clubhouse and the club facilities are used by various community organisations to hold meetings and raise funds for their respective organiations the club will be appealing to the whole community and surrounding area to support this Prize Draw. Please purchase a ticket to ensure the future of the Buncrana Golf Club for generation to come. Tickets can be purchased from any committee member, in the clubhouse, over the phone or online at driveithomedraw.ie

The competition last weekend was the James Hegarty Memorial Open Stableford which was sponsored by Hegarty’s Furniture & Giftware Buncrana. Once again scoring was difficult with weather conditions more similar to the winter months than summer and only 9 of the players shot 36 pts or better. The winning score was 41 pts returned by Stephen Coyle who played some great golf to take first prize and his maiden victory. The full results of the James Hegarty Memorial Open Stableford played Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th June are as follows;

Overall/Cat 2 Stephen Coyle (16) 41 pts

Gross Jonathon Doherty (4) 70 gross

Category 1 David Mc Menamin (12)   37 pts b.o.t.

Category 3 Martin Mc Dermott (30) 36 pts

Best Day (Sat) Leo Sheehy (21) 38 pts

Back 9 Damien Mc Cauley (21) 20 pts
