Letterkenny Golf Club mourns the loss of Hugh Breslin

The Letterkenny Golf Club have said a sad farewell to their oldest member, Hugh Breslin, who passed away last week.

Mr Breslin, formerly of The Fairways, Ramelton Road, died on Thursday 11th October in St. Joseph’s Hospital Stranorlar.

His fellow club members paid tribute to his memory in their weekly club notes, saying: “It is with deep regret that we said goodbye to our oldest Member Hugh Breslin who passed away and was buried in Conwal Graveyard after 11a.m. Mass in the Irish Martyrs on Monday 15th.  Hugh was 92 yrs. of age and played golf up to recently.

“He was at all times a gentleman and will be missed by all whom he befriended on the golf course and in the Club House. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.”

Letterkenny Golf Club Notes: 

Winners in recent Competitions L/R T. McIntyre, Joe Devenney, Jacqueline Ireland (for Ian) Captain Hugh McClafferty, Tom Wherithy and Darragh McMenamin.

On Wed 10/10/18. Open was run off. There was a large attendance and some good scores were posted.  Patrick O’Kane (11.9) was the winner on the day with a great score of 41 pts. (BOT). Patrick had a birdie on the 10th along with 8 pars. Adrian Daly (18.9) was the runner up with 41 pts. and Joe Terry (away) got third place with 37 pts. (BOT).

While Sat. 13/10/18 was a continuously wet day the course was open and playable consequently the Saturday Open was played off.  Kevin Rafferty (4.4) posted an excellent score (for the kind of weather conditions) of 35 pts. Kevin took 3 birdies out of the course i.e. on the 3rd, the 5th and the 13th. He also had 8 pars. Michael Collum (5.7) took second place with 31 pts. and Tim O’Farrell (16.7) was third with 27 pts.

There was a large attendance for the Members Competition on Sunday 14th. David McGowan (7.0) was the winner with a great score of 40 pts. David succeeded in getting one birdie on the 7th and 11 pars. Kevin Rafferty (4.1) was a close second with 39 pts. and John Bowe (18.1) was third with 38 pts.
