There was an 18 hole Open Stableford sweep last weekend at Buncrana Golf Club and the difficult weather conditions didn’t deter some of the players playing some fantastic golf.

The best score of the weekend was recorded by Paul Burns (24) who shot a tremendous 45 points to take first prize and his maiden victory as a member. In second place was Paul Mc Daid (11) with another great score of 43 points and Jonny Morrison (8) finished third with 41 points.

Fiáchra O’ Flaherty (5) took the gross with 68 gross shots.

There was a good turnout for the Annual General Meeting last Sunday where the members were informed of the progress of the club by reports from the club Secretary Francis McGrory, the club Treasurer Gary McLaughlin and the greens convenor P J Hallinan.

The club continues to progress in the right direction with a positive balance sheet and an increase in membership. New and existing members can see what the club has to offer with the excellent greens, the friendly atmosphere and camaraderie at the club is second to none.

On behalf of the committee and members the secretary took the opportunity to thank all the sponsors who give generously every year. The secretary stated as a voluntary / community golf club the support of these sponsors is greatly appreciated and necessary to maintain the facility for the local community.

There will be no membership increases this year, however the AGM has introduced a levy for anyone who hasn’t their respective membership paid in full on or before 31st March 2020.

Anyone who is paying by instalments and hasn’t the full subscription paid on or before the 31st March 2020 will pay an extra €20 levy. The following officers were elected for 2020: President Mr. Robert Callaghan, Captain Mr. Pius McFadden, Vice-Captain Mr. David Henry, Secretary Mr. Francis McGrory and Treasurer Mr. Gary McLaughlin.
